We are called upon this week to record the death of another one of Holt County’s most excellent women in the death of Miss Dorcas R. Evans, which occurred at her home in Forbes Township Monday last June 21, 1897 at the age of 63. She was born in Putnam County, Indiana Feb 22, 1834 and came to Platte County in 1846, in 1850 located in Holt County, where she has ever since resided. At the age of 17 she was converted to Christ and united with the MP Church, and afterwards, in 1862 transferred her membership to the ME Church where she continued steadfast in the faith until her death. She was a woman of most wonderful energy and devotion and lived with the “Golden Rule” always uppermost in her mind – “Do ye unto one another as ye would that others should do unto you.” She was never married and with a sister and three brothers, all lived in single life, living together and for each other, a brother Dan dying in December 1894, and was the first to break the union. Two brothers and a sister are left to mourn her loss and it is truly a loss to this excellent family. Funeral services were conducted from the home on Tuesday 22d inst by Rev. Henry Crampton after which the remains were laid to rest in the Freedom cemetery. – kbz
