Mrs. Susan Etcheson
Source: Greencastle Star, 7 Dec 1895
On last Sunday morning Mrs. Susan Etcheson of Monroe Township, committed suicide by shooting herself with a 38-calibre revolver, the ball passing through her heart. Deceased resided with her son, Daniel Etcheson and had gone out in the yard, giving no sign that she was contemplating the rash act. Not returning to the house as soon as expected, Mr. Etcheson went out to look for her, and found her seated in the water closet dead with the revolver lying on the floor near by. She had opened her dress, placed the muzzle of the weapon just over her heart, and fired the fatal shot. The body was taken to the house and Coroner Kleinbub was summoned to hold an inquest the verdict being in accordance with the facts above stated. Deceased had been of unsound mind for many years, and had been sent to the insane asylum, from which institution she was returned on furlough and was considered perfectly harmless, never having shown any inclination to harm herself or others. She was 61 years of age. The family have the sympathy of all in their great bereavement. = kbz
