Alvan V. Ellis, 91 of East China Township died Saturday Jan 27, 2007. He was born Dec 16, 1915 in Greencastle, Indiana where he grew up on a farm. Alvan served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was the pilot of a B-24 bomber plane. He met his wife, Lucille Endres in Marine City. They were married in Holy Cross Catholic Church on Nov 30, 1940 and she preceded him in death on Sept 2, 1997. Together they raised their family in their home on the river in East China, the home where Alvan still resided. During his life, Alvan served his community for many years as Township Supervisor for East China and as a St. Clair County Commissioner. He owned several businesses, including StaKool Company, Ellis Cleaners, EconoWash and EconoCleaners, all in Marine City and Algonac. Alvan continued to work everyday until becoming ill just this past December. Alvan was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers and sister and other dear family members and friends. Surviving are his children, John (Carol) of Hawaii, Ann Distelrath of St. Clair, Mark (Ann) of N. Carolina, Mary (Chuck) Griffin of St. Clair, Lu Ann (Jim) Douglas of Marine City and Lori Lipa (Keith Goad) of Marine City; grandchildren, Michael Ellis, Leanne (James) Matthews and Amy and Nathan Lipa and many nieces and nephews. The funeral mass in Holy Cross Church, Marine City will take place on Thursday at 12 noon with interment to follow in Rosehill Cemetery, East China. The family will receive visitors in the Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. and in the church on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12 noon.
