Milton Clarence, second son of Howard Marion and Elizabeth Goslin Edwards was born May 27, 1868, in Putnam county, Indiana, where he spent his entire life. March 8, 1936, after a prolonged and painful illness, he passed to his reward, aged 67 years, 9 months and 11 days.
He was united in marriage to Lucy Conkrite September 29, 1886. A little daughter, Mabel, came to gladden this home but in the bloom of youth when life was bright and beautiful for the parents and daughter, Mabel was summoned to fulfill the wish of the Master.
A few years before this sad event, a little orphan niece, Pearl Conkrite, was taken into the home of this good father and mother, where love, affection and devotion seemed shared equally between daughter and niece.
The growing confidence, love and faithfulness of this child helped heal the wounds of sorrow and the foster daughter became daughter in reality.
A few months ago, when the burdens of care became intense, the loving wife was unable to carry on alone and Uncle Milt was taken to the home of his daughter where she and her husband helped administer to his every wish.
The life of Milt Edwards was one of patience, perseverance and self-sacrifice. His early life on a farm near Fincastle ended with failing health. It was then he moved to Roachdale where he has since lived.
Seemingly by fortuitous circumstances many channels of interest connected him with the public wherein he cultivated acquaintances and made staunch friendships.
His association with the people of Roachdale as merchant, assistant cashier of the bank and deputy postmaster made him a factor in the general activity and betterment of the community. His religious affiliations connected him with the Presbyterian church and social interests linked him with the Masonic lodge.
Besides the faithful wife he is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Carlyle Brookshire, her husband and son Edward, the latter he cherished as a grandson. One sister, Mrs. Charles Crosby, and a host of near relatives and friends will miss his pleasant smile and kindly greetings. Preceding him in death were a brother, Charles, and a sister, Mrs. Clara Lovett.
Though the material life of Milton Edwards is ended his faithful companionship, his fatherly love, and friendly neighborliness in memory lives on.
