DODSON, James H

Source: Greencastle Herald 4 April 1911 p 1

James Hice Dodson, who died from blood poisoning, the result of wounds sustained in piloting a passenger train from Indianapolis 32 years ago will be buried at Highland Lawn cemetery Wednesday afternoon.  The services will be conducted from the home at 8th & Walnut streets. Mr. Dodson had been fireman and engineer on the Vandalia for 34 years. His father Nick Dodson was an engineer on the same road before him. There are two records, at least to his credit. He brought a train from Indianapolis to Terre Haute while suffering from the affects of an accident from Indianapolis  to Terre Haute in the hour and 25 minutes making three stops and two slow downs, the actual running time in action being the fastest ever made over the road, it is believed. Jim had a great many warm friends, but he was not what is generally known as a mixer. He was a family man and lived and worked for the happiness of the little home circle. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Engineers, the Brotherhood of Fireman and of a benevolent association of Vandalia employees.
