NEWTOWN Ind. (CNS) – Services were at the First Presbyterian Church in Rensselaer for Russell Amos Dean, 69, of Renseelaer, a retired school teacher and husband of the former Thelma Beck of Newtown. He died Saturday (April 13, 1974) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He had been ill a year. Graveside rites were at the Roachdale Cemetery. He was born in Roachdale and held degrees from Central Normal College and Indiana University and had taught in Montgomery, Lake, and Jasper counties. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rensselaer and had served as president of the Jasper County Red Cross. He was a charter member of Rensselaer Lions Club, member of Phi Delta Kappa, a former Jasper County Democratic precinct chairman and a member of the Rensselaer Park Commission. He was born March 17, 1905, at Roachdale, the son of Joseph and Alice Russell Dean, He was married to Thelma Black Oct. 29, 1932, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Phillip B. of Rockville, Md., and Gordon R. of Waterford, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Clova James of Covington; a brother, Robert L. Dean of Greencastle; and two grandsons.
