A lady who was universally respected in Greencastle for her high Christian faith, truly motherly traits and general good has passed to her reward. We refer to the death of Mrs. Mary Curtiss, the venerable mother of Dr. GL Curtiss, which occurred Thursday at Columbus. This news will be received with genuine regret by Greencastle people to many of whom Mrs. Curtiss was very dear. We quote the following particulars from the Columbus Republican of the 28th: “This morning when the new day was auspiciously begun at 9:24 the angel of death paused by the war and killed into more effulgent light the soul of a mother in Iaw. The mother of Dr. GL Curtis, pastor of the ME Church of this city passed sweetly to her home beyond the river. She was born at Lebanon, Conn 91811) and lived there until 17 years of age when she removed with her parents to Columbia station, Ohio where she was united in marriage to Lewis Curtiss. She became a member of the ME Church in 1835 and has been a faithful and devoted follower of her Savior and that faith the past 50 years. In 1857 she went to live with Dr. Curtiss and has made her home in his family, by whom she will be sadly missed. Death was due to old age. The funeral services will be held in the ME Church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. Services conducted by Rev. Doddridge and others. The remains will then be taken on the 4:20 train to Columbus station where they will be laid to rest by the side of her husband. Casket will be open from nine to noon at the corner of 12th and Pearl Streets. ---transcribed by kbz
