Miss Catherine
Curran, 63, former teacher and a handwriting consultant, died yesterday in St.
Vincent’s Hospital. Her home was at 4153 Central. Miss Curran suffered a heart attack last
April. Her sister, Miss Honora J.
Currant retired as a teacher of Broad Ripple HS to attend her. Another sister,
Mary C. Curran died in October 1955. Born at Greencastle, Miss Curran had lived
here since 1917. She attended DePauw
University School of Music, the University of Wisconsin and Columbia
University. For a number of years Miss Curran taught fifth grade at William
Benn School No 60. Suffering from bursitis, she took a year’s leave of absence.
Then she became interested in working for a publishing company as handwriting
consultant. The last five years she had worked in that capacity for the
Zaner-Bloser Publishing Co of Columbus, Ohio. In her work she traveled all over
the United States. Keenly interested in
art and music, Miss Curran taught classes in both. She was a member of the St.
Joan of Arc and its Altar Society and Delta Theta Tau Sorority. Services will
be at 8:30 am. Monday in Kirby Mortuary and at 9 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc
Church, with burial at Greencastle. The sister is the only immediate survivor.
