Nancy CUNNINGHAM

On last Sunday at the residence of her son in Tippecanoe County, Mrs. Nancy CUNNINGHAM passed away from earth at the advanced age of 79. Mrs. Cunningham was born in PA in 1808 and emigrated with her parents to Jennings County, Indiana, when a child settling where the town of Vernon now stands. At an early age she was married to D.L. Cunningham and the young couple removed to Putnam County, near Portland. In 1836 they made another move and settled in Madison Twp on the farm now owned by Branson Rusk, then the property of Col. May. Here bad luck in trusting to the honesty of other men swept their savings away and they were forced to give up their land. She was one of the pioneer mothers who helped clear the land, break the prairie and drive the wolf and red man from our state. To her, and to all such as her, all honor.
