CUMBACK, Elizabeth Hopwood

Source: Greencastle Banner 18 June 1885 p 5

Mrs. LG (LS) Cumback died Friday afternoon shortly after 12 o’clock at the residence of her father, Dr WC Hopwood in this city.  One week previous she had gone to Clayton to visit relatives, stopping at the residence of David Hufford where the following day she was taken sick with congestion of the stomach.  Her husband and father hastened to her bedside at once, having been notified by telegraph.  On Tuesday she was able to come home but soon afterward became worse, and continued so until death.  The funeral took place Sunday morning from Dr. Hopwood’s being very largely attended, many relatives being present from abroad.  It was conducted by Dr. John and Elder Badger.  Mrs. Cumback was in her 30th year and graduated from Asbury University in 1875 in the same class with her husband to whom she was married two years later.  He and two children survive her, one having died.  In all respects she was an excellent lady, and was beloved by an unusually large circle of friends.   - kbz
