The body of a dead man found along the NY Central Railroad tracks near the Largent Coal & Oil Company, 1101 S. Liberty St at 1:56 a.m. Saturday was identified as Samuel Emmons Crawley, 66 who roomed at 219 W Howard St. Detectives said a brother identified the man Saturday afternoon. Dr. R. Stanley, deputy coroner said death apparently was due to natural causes. He said an autopsy might be performed Sunday. The body was taken to Parson Mortuary. Crawley’s body was discovered by William A. Tafflinger, 3230 Meeker Ave. An investigation was made by Patrolmen Harry Butler and Roy Marvin and Det. Ernest Holaday. The body was found near a switch track. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parson Mortuary where you may call after 3 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Dewey Hole of Gas City with burial in Beech Grove Cemetery. He is survived by a brother, Alva Crawley, a city fireman and a sister, Mrs. Sylvia French. He is a WWI veteran and came here in 1940. He was born in Greencastle. He was at one time employed at the Doyle Tin Shop here. - kbz
