Crawley, Archibald

Last Friday morning about half past 11 o’clock Arch Crawley who lives near Deer Creek Bridge shot himself in the forehead with a .32 caliber revolver while standing in the rear of his house. He lived but a short time. The deceased was about 35 years old and leaves a wife and four children. Some trouble with a neighbor is supposed to be the cause of the suicide.
I see the last issue of the Star-Press attributes the suicide of Arch Crawley to a difficulty with a neighbor. As I am the neighbor with whom the supposed difficulty was with, I deem it necessary to correct the mistake. I never had any difficulty with Mr. Crawley and these slanderous accusations with which I am charged are without truth. It was the work of his own hand – the result of insanity or from some unknown cause. As an injustice was done me by publishing the rumor you will do me a great favor by correcting the mistake … Mack Jones.
The coroner’s inquest in the case of Archibald Crawley was held last Tuesday afternoon. The result of the inquest was that the deceased came to his death by a gun shot wound in the center of the forehead and back into his head inflicted by himself while insane.

Friday morning at 10 o’clock Arch Crawley, living in a little house just south of the Deer Creek Bridge on the Cloverdale Road shot himself in the head with a .38-calibre pistol.  Mr. Crawley had been acting queerly for several days and to his friends it appeared as though he was continually afraid some one was seeking to take his life.  He had been to Greencastle where he was found by relatives and taken to his home.  After being there but a few moment he stepped around to the side of the house and placing the revolver to his forehead sent a heavy bail crashing through his brain.  He lingered until 3 p.m. when he breathed his last.  Coroner McNiff and John James went down in answer to a summons and the coroner has made a finding in accord with the above facts.  Mr. Crawley was aged 35 years and leaves a widow and four children. -  kbz
