The funeral of John Crane, Jr., took place Friday afternoon. The ceremony was under the supervision of the Knights of Pythias of which order the deceased was a member. They headed the procession, preceded by the City band, and made an imposing appearance. The funeral was one of the largest ever seen in Greencastle --- kbz

John Crane, Jr. a well known
citizen of this place died Wednesday Oct 20, very suddenly having been sick
only about 50 hours of congestion of the stomach and bowels. Deceased was up in
the business portion of the city on Monday night and was taken sick at that
time. Friends took him to his father’s residence and medical aid was summoned
but in spite of all that could be done, death came as above stated. John Crane,
Jr. was eminent in politics, having served two terms as Recorder of the county.
He was kind and generous to a fault, and had a large circle of friends. He
leaves four orphan children and many other relatives to mourn his sudden
departure hence. – kbz
