Another name has been added to Putnam County’s Gold Star Roll in World War II with the news Wednesday of the death in an Australian Hospital of Raymond “Nick” Cox, well known local man and former employee of the Horace Link store. Mr. Cox was serving in the United States Navy and had been in New Guinea when he became ill.  He was taken to Australia where his death resulted. His mother, Mrs. Viola Cox resides at 506 South Indiana Street.  Other survivors are one daughter, Laconda; his father, Alva J. Cox of Danville, Ill; three brothers, Kermit, Kenneth and AJ Cox, all in the service; and two sisters, Christene of Detroit, Mich and Garnet of Mitchell.

ames of 75 Indiana war dead whose bodies were among the 2792 returned from the Pacific area aboard the transport Cardinal O’Connell were released by the Army today.  The bodies brought by the Cardinal O’Connell are from many cemeteries throughout the Pacific. A large number had been concentrated at the Mausoleum in the Hawaiian Island after smaller mid-Pacific island cemeteries had been evacuated.  The bulk of the others are being returned from cemeteries at Brisbane and Sydney, Australia and Guadalcanal.
From San Francisco, the port of arrival the bodies of the Indiana heroes will be sent to regional quartermaster distribution centers in Chicago, Columbus and Memphis.  About three weeks will elapse before arrival of the remains at the home town or national cemetery for final burial.  The following Indiana list shows rank, name and branch of service of the deceased, followed by name and address of next-of-kin.
