Waveland - Delmond A. (Dick) Courtney, 58, was found dead in his small home near Deer's Mill Tuesday morning. Death, which was due to a cerebral hemorrhage, was believed to have occurred about 8 p.m. Monday. Courtney's body was discovered by Leslie Pickett of Alamo, for whom he had been working. Courtney had become sick while working Monday morning, complaining of a severe headache. Pickett took him home about mid-morning. When Courtney did not report for work Tuesday morning, Pickett went to the Courtney home and discovered the body in bed. Pickett then went to the home of Ray Olmstead, nearby, and called the sheriff's office. Sheriff's officers, together with Dr. Fred Blix, county coroner, investigated. Mr. Courtney was born Feb. 8, 1899, in Waynetown. He was married to Hazel Cramer Aug. 30, 1917 in Waynetown and later to Gertrude Swank on Oct. 8, 1928 in Danville, Ill. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Emma Lee, Crawfordsville; a son, Robert of Waynetown; two daughters Nancy Stevenson and Judith Sue Courtney of Romney; four half-brothers, Chester, Kenneth, John and James McCollum, all of Crawfordsville; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Floyd Harshbarger of New Richmond and Mrs. Homer Miller of Greencastle. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
