William Henry Cooper, age 90, retired head of Union Asphalt Company died today at his home, 329 North Ritter Avenue. Mr. Cooper was born in Greencastle Jan 20, 1846. At 15 he left Asbury College to enlist in the army for the Civil War and served until the close of the war. He was a member of Company H, 43d regiment, Indiana volunteer and was commander of the George H. Thomas Post, Grand Army of the Republic. He was a member of the Irvington ME Church. Mr. Cooper had lived in Indianapolis 35 years and was associated with his brother, JW Cooper in the Union Asphalt Company, retiring 15 years ago. Survivors are a son, OW Cooper, a daughter, Miss Alice B. Cooper; a sister, Mrs. Annie Layne, Cloverdale and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the home. Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery. Dr. Abram S. Woodard, pastor of the Irvington ME Church will conduct services. - kbz
