Indianapolis, Nov 21 – Richard M. Coleman, 56 years old an attorney here for 35 years and long active in affairs of the Democratic party, died yesterday afternoon at his home 2407 North Meridian Street, following an illness of 15 weeks. Funeral services will be conducted at the Flanner & Buchanan mortuary 25 West Fall Creek Boulevard at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.  Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery. Throughout his long practice here Mr. Coleman had gained a wide friendship and acquaintance among Indianapolis attorneys and businessmen.  Since he first came to this city about 36 years ago, he was identified actively with the Democratic party. Mr. Coleman with chief deputy county clerk under John Rauch as clerk (sic).  At the last general election he was the Democratic candidate for the clerk’s office but was defeated by George O. Hutsell. Several years ago he was the Democratic choice for prosecuting attorney but was defeated by his Republican opponent. His offices here were at 93 Lemcke Building. Mr. Coleman came to Indianapolis from Greencastle, his home city shortly after graduating from the law school at DePauw University.  He was born on a farm near Greencastle, the son of Jerome and Mary Coleman.  He obtained his early education in the schools of his native county, Putnam. For a short time he lived at Fillmore, returned to Greencastle and then came here to establish himself in the practice of law. Mr. Coleman was the member of Oriental Lodge F&AM and Odd Fellows. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Fillmore and had never transferred his membership to a local church.  He also was affiliated with the Indiana Democratic Club and marion County Jefferson Club a Democratic organization 25 years ago Mr. Coleman married Miss Sue Baughman in this city. Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Miss Lee and Miss Agnes Coleman of this city; the mother, Mrs. Mary Coleman; two brothers, Paul and Woodford Coleman and a sister, Mrs. John Dietrich, all living near Greencastle.  - kbz
