James Elvis Christy, 69, Route 1, Fillmore, died Thursday at Putnam County Hospital.

Born April 18, 1919 in Barren County, KY, he was the son of Dewey Richard and Ruth E. (Moss) Christy.

Mr. Christy was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in the 100th Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, and in France and Germany as a sergeant.

He married Martha E. Davis on Nov. 10, 1938 and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy O'Brien, Indianapolis; a son and a daughter-in-law, James E. and Karen Christy, Jr., Fillmore; four brothers, J. Donald and Bob Christy, both of Indianapolis, Charles A. Christy, Fort Meyers, Fla, and William D. Christy, Beckley, W.Va; seven grandchildren, Sherry Ward, South Carolina, Michael Miller and Karen Kay Crouch, both of Indianapolis, Mark A., Brian S., Susan A. and Tad M. Christy, all of Fillmore; and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Christy was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John W., and an infant son, Richard Christy. (This is incorrect, it should have been preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John W., and an infant brother. The infant brother was the son of Richard Christy.)

Mr. Christy was an inspector for 35 1/2 years at Detroit Diesel Allison Divison of General Motors. He retired in September, 1974. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, serving as a trustee for several years.

Services are scheduled 2 p.m. Sunday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. John McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday until the time of service at the funeral home.
