John Christy, 94 years old, one of the oldest residents of Putnam county, died at the Christie homestead three miles east of this city Friday morning at 3 o'clock. General debility caused by the infirmities of age was the cause of his death. The funeral was held at the Christie homestead east of the city Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. Mr. Christie came to Putnam County from West Virginia when he was five years old and has resided in this vicinity since. He has resided on the Christie farm, where his death occurred, practically all his life. He was known as one of the most progressive farmers in the east part of the county. An extensive acquaintance over the county was enjoyed by Mr. Christie and his excellent traits of character cultivated a lasting friendship with many people. Mr. Christie is survived by seven children, four daughters, Mrs. Charles Siddons and Mrs. Douglas Gorham of this city, Mrs. Cornelia Vice of Coatesville, Mrs. Susan Gibbons of Stilesville, and Mrs. Sarah Siddons of Belle Union; two sons, John H. Christie, and Columbus Christie, who reside east of town.
