James Alison Chiles, 65, of 1312 Howell  Street, died in St. Elizabeth Hospital at 6 a.m. Saturday after an illness of three weeks. Born in martin County, he moved to Lafayette in 1942 after spending most of his life in Putnam County where he was a farmer.  He was employed as a watchman at the Reifers Furniture warehouse for six years.  He was married to Bonnie Akins at Greencastle in 1910 and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Lafayette. Survivors besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Bernard Stadler, Ladoga; a son, Maurice E. Chiles, Lafayette R 3; two brothers, Alva of Bridgeport and Fay of Rockville and two half brothers, Sam and Leo Mackall, living in Ohio. - kbz

Source: Same-- Chiles, James A – Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at Hippensteel Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Interment at Brick Chapel in Putnam County. Survivors include four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
