The death of Addison D. Chew, age 73 years a well known Greencastle Coal dealer, occurred at the county hospital at 7:30 Wednesday evening after a short illness. Mr.,. Chew had been a resident of Putnam County for the past 50 years, living in Greencastle for the past 13 years where he was engaged in the coal business.
Mr. Chew became ill two and one-half weeks ago and was taken to the hospital 1- days aft where two operations were performed in an effort to save his life. Mr. Chew is survived by six children, Mrs. John Bence of Greencastle;' Lacey Chew of Washington Township; Mrs. Frank Senter of New London, O; Edward Chew of Reelsville; Courtland Chew of Peoria Ill; Mrs. Harvey Aker of Reelsville; and 17 grandchiildren and one sister, Mrs. Lida Chew of Ridgefarm, Illinois.
A short service for Greencastle friends will be held at the McMurry Funeral Home at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon followed by a regular service at the Reelsville ME Church at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon both services conducted by the Rev. VL Raphael of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church. The Masonic order will give its ritualistic service at the grave in Reelsville cemetery.
Mr. Chew was born Nov 7, 1854 and was well known in this city where he had many friends. For 13 years he conducted a coal business in north Greencastle. His wife died 16 years ago. - kbz
