Carmel – “To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die and the passing of a Christian is but a passing over.” Vera Katheryn Cheetham was born Jul 17, 1924 in Fillmore, Putnam County, Indiana and departed this life Nov 1, 2018 in Carmel, Hamilton County, Indiana at the age of 94. “Kay” was the daughter of Clarice Irene Bunten and Ollie Earl Sutherlin of Putnam County and sister to Kenneth Beryl Sutherlin and Betty Joan Sutherlin Cole. She was preceded in death by Clarice, Ollie, Kenney, Betty and her husband Bob. Kay’s early years were spent in Putnam County, Indiana on the farms of her grandparents Charley and Fanny Bunten and James and Eldina Sutherlin where she and her siblings enjoyed the attention of a myriad of relatives. On Aug 30th, 1947, Kay was joined in marriage to Robert Allen (Bob) Cheetham, son of Herbert Samuel and Launa Marguerite (Rosemeyer) Cheetham in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. To this union were born five children: Linda Sue (Mark) Richardson of Longmont, Colorado; Robert Dale (Stephenie Glidden) of Indianapolis; Christopher Allen (Cheryl Peggy) of Anderson; Bryn Ellen (Bob Mellott) of Westminster, Colorado and Dean Russell (Candy Cattron) of Carmel and dau-in-law, Becky Whetstone Cheetham. During their journey together, Kay and Bob lived in Lafayette during Bob’s undergraduate days at Purdue. They lived in Anderson where Bob worked at Delco Remy and Kay worked for the City of Anderson and where they both worked as Relators. They retired to Chattanooga, Tenn where Bob worked for TVA and then Spring City, Tennessee where they enjoyed lake living with their family and friends on the Watts Bar Lake until Bob’s death in 1997. Kay leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Ryan, Andy, Megan, Morgan, Casey, Jordan, Jamie, Christen, Cam, Cody, Jason, Courtney, Micayla and Miranda and her cherished great grandchildren Bryce, Colin, Aria, Maren, Avery, Savannah, Chloe, Baylie, Ayden, Sadie, Brayden and Henry and many nieces and nephews. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday Nov 5, 2018 at Croen Hill Funeral Home with visitation from 12:30 p.m.- kbz.
