CHADD, David Monroe

David Monroe Chadd, son of Samuel and Sarah Kinsler Chadd, was born in Marlon township, Putnam county, Indiana, June 10, 1842, died May 18, 1911; age 68 years, 11 mouths and 8 days. He was the second child of six children—four boys and two girls—of whom only two survive, viz: Thomas Chadd and Mary Margaret Jackson.
He was educated In the common schools, and was afterward a student in Asbury, now DePauw university. He taught school in Vigo county, Indiana. He was married to Mary Frances Sheets, March 5, 1871, who died May 2, 1902. He was stricken with paralysis almost 40 years ago; and remained an invalid he kept the old toll gate east of Greencastle for ten years, after which he moved to the farm where he died. He was elected trustee of Marlon township in 1894, and remained in office almost 6 years, discharging the duties in an upright and honorable way.
He has been a father to James W. Webster, a foster son, who has been with him for 31 years, taking him when a boy; raising him to manhood, and caring for him and his family They also have fully reciprocated his kindness and love, caring for him in his long period of suffering, of which he never complained. He united with the M. E. church at Fillmore twenty years ago, and has lived a faithful Christian life, giving liberally to the support of the church He has been unable to attend since 1904, only when carried into the house of worship. He fully realized his condition, and often said, “I am ready to answer the call ”
