ELLA SOOTS CARPENTER

Source: Roachdale Times, Roachdale, Putnam County, Indiana 2/16/1939

July 6, 1874, a daughter, Ella, was born to John and Mary Newman Soots near North Salem. Her entire life was spent in that community. She became affiliated with the Christian church at the age of thirteen years, and has ever faithfully endeavored to follow in the footsteps of the Master. She was also a member of Eastern Star. The community, as well as the family, is bereaved at her passing. She was married to Fielding Carpenter October 18, 1891, and six children came to them, three of whom preceded her in death. She also reared four step-children, giving them the love and devotion she gave her own and they grew up to love and cherish as their mother. With the passing of the husband and father seven years ago, the youngest son, Victor, took over the responsibility of caring for his mother and through the years of her failing health his every thought has been for her comfort. The day is done for mother, and shadowed by her passing, bow the loney children; two sons, Herndon of Roachdale and Victor at home; Mrs. Edith Clark of Danville and two step-children; Edgar Carpenter and Mrs. Cora Soots of Indianapolis; the grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Maud McLean and two brothers Marion and Emory Soots.   --- thanks so very much to Marilyn Walker for providing her RT obituaries.
