Robert Carmichael, 73, Greencastle, died Wednesday morning at his residence. He was born in Madison Township on Aug. 6,1907, the son of James and Lela (Nelson) Carmichael. The deceased married Lela Mae Gooch on March 22,1928, and she survives. Mr. Carmichael worked at White Cleaners and at the Indiana State Highway. Mr. Carmichael retired from the Poor and Co. elevator in 1972. He was an avid CB operator, known by his CB friends as “Grandpa.” Mr. Carmichael was a member of the Greencastle Moose Lodge No. 1592. Survivors, besides his wife, Lela, include a daughter, Mrs. Anna Mae Evans, Greencastle; a son, Donald Carmichael, Indianapolis, a stepson, Cassell L. Balay, Greencastle; a brother, Nelson Carmichael, Greencastle; and a sister, Mildred Bailey, Indianapolis. Also surviving are two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Jackie (Crawley) Carmichael and Mrs. Madonna Balay; a son-in-law, Harold Evans; nine grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with the Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
