CAMPBELL, David - Civil War - Putnam

David W. Campbell, 86, Civil War Veteran and well known Coatesville business man died at his home there this morning.  Mr. Campbell was born in Jennings County and served in the 43rd Indiana Infantry during the Civil War.  During the Indian uprising in the West he was a member of the regular army.  Following this service he returned to Coatesville and has made his home there for the past 60 years.  Mr. Campbell has at various times been engaged in the general mercantile business, the hardware business and the lumber business.  At the time of his death he and his son Allen Campbell were operating a hardware, furniture and undertaking business.  He was a member of the Coatesville Baptist Church, Coatesville IOOF and  F&AM lodges and a member of Royal Arch and Knight Templar lodge of Greencastle, he was also a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner.  He was married to Mary Ann Allen April 1, 1869.  Since her death Jan 30, 1918 he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Roy Hodson.  He is survived by three children: Mrs. Roy Hodson, Mrs. Oscar Stanley and Allen Campbell, all of Coatesville; six grandchildren (Mrs. Leslie Owens of Atlanta, Georgia, Mrs. Olney Hunt of Danville, Mrs. Fred Shelton of Plainfield; Cyrus Stanley; Jeanette and Roland Campbell of Coatesville also survive.  He was the last of a family of 8 children, a brother and sister having passed away within the last few months.  Funeral services will be held at the home Friday at 2 p.m.    ~~~transcribed by kbz
