BYRD, John W - Putnam

Otterbein – John W. Byrd, 91, of Otterbein died at 4:10 p.m. Monday in Otterbein Nursing Care Center. Born May 27, 1895 in Putnam County he was reared and educated in Howard County.  In 1914 he was married to Vada Victoria Harris in Kokomo. He farmed in Howard and Jasper Counties until her death in 1935.  His second marriage was to Margaret Costello who died in 1966.  He was married to Florence Black in 1972 and she survives.  After leaving farming he worked in construction in Anderson for many years, retiring in 1966.  Mr. Byrd was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Lafayette and 45-year member of Eagles Lodge Aerie 174 in Anderson. Surviving with the widow are two sons, Joe Byrd of Otterbein, Robert J. Byrd of Zion, Ill; four stepchildren all of Kokomo and a sister, Etta M. Floyd of Homeland, California
