Mr. James K.
Burgess died very suddenly on last Wednesday morning, his ailment being
pronounced apoplexy. Deceased had returned only a few hours before from French
Lick Springs whither he had gone in search of renewed health but the water did
not prove beneficial to him. He had
expressed himself as feeling better than usual on Wednesday morning and his
sudden “taking off” was almost without premonition. He was about the house when
the fatal illness seized him, and James A. Ricketts assisted him into the bed,
but he lived only a short time after lying down. Deceased was 50 years of age;
he was one of the old residents of Putnam County and was well known and had
many friends in Southeast Putnam, where he formerly resided. The funeral took
place on Thursday burial at Stilesville Cemetery. - kbz
