The day was done and the darkness falls from the wings of night as a feather wafted down from an eagle in its flight. Quietly the death angel came into our community, just as a new day was dawning, Dec. 17, 1944 and claimed one of our neighbors and friend. A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised - Fannie Wiley, eldest child of John and Mary Jane Cowgill Zeiner was born in Greencastle, Indiana, Jan. 8 1878, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thaddeus Bridges, aged 66 years, 11 months and nine days.
On March 31st, 1897 she was united in marriage to Charles O. Bunten. She wend into this home and was a good mother to his two children, mary and Harry, remained a true mother to them till the day of her death.
To this union were born three daughters, Icy, Clarice and Hazel. This husband passed away Nov. 5 1938 a little more than six years ago. She was united with the Methodist church in Fillmore, in her early teens, later moved her membership to the Fillmore Christian church. Fannie spent all her life in Putnam county, with the exception of a few years when a child, she with her parents lived in Kansas. She always lived in a conscientious Christian life, stived to do Gods will, her every day living was proof of her love for her Savior. She had been in failing health for several months. All was done for her that loving hands and care could do, but to no avail. She leaves to mourn for her these two step children, Mary Lauderman and Harry Bunten, both of Indianapolis, three daughters, Mrs. Thaddeus Bridges, Mrs. Ollie Sutherlin, both of Marion township, Mrs. Wm. Priest of Indianapolis, three sons-in-law, five grandchildren, several step grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters, William, Elisha, Rosa Evans and Nellie Nichols, all of Marion township, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. One brother who died when four weeks of age, one sister, Susie Lisby and one granddaughter, little rosemary Priest, have preceded her in death, one step-grandson, Robert Eugene Lauderman died on Saipan, July 9, 1944 while fighting for his country.
Why should death seem dark and cold and strange.
Like a long, lone trek across a wilderness;
It is not dark, neither is it lone,
The way, the cool sweet way, that leads
From all we know into the unknown;
Death is not lone nor dark nor cold,
It is not strange,
We will but awake and understand.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to our friends, neighbors and relatives for their kindness, sympathy and beautiful floral tributes received at the death of our mother, Fannie Wiley Bunten.
