Russell Lavern Brown, 71, 916 National Road W, died Tuesday at the Colonial Crest Convalescent Center after a long illness. He was born in Putnam County and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Detroit Diesel in Indianapolis before moving to Richmond more than 10 years ago. Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Mason with whom he lived and Mary Clark, also of Richmond; one son, Donald Brown of Dayton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Brown of Brazil, Ind and Samuel Brown of Putnamville. – kbz

Funeral service for Russell Lavern Brown will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle with burial in the Cloverleaf (Ind) Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Doan & Mills Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. – kbz
