John Wesley Brown, 79, of 317 E. Virginia St, died at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Brown served on the police force in Greencastle, Ind from 1940 until 1944. For the next three years, he was a guard at Michigan City Prison. After moving to Evansville in 1952, Brown worked at the Evansville State Hospital. In 1958 he retired from St. Mary’s Medical Center where he was employed in the boiler room. He was a member of Bible Center Church. Surviving are his wife, Helen; two sons, Christman Brown of Wellston, Oklahoma and Charles Frederick Brown of Louisville, Ky; three brothers, Sam Brown of Putnamville, Ind; Arthur Brown of Brazil, Ind and Russell Brown of Richmond, Ind; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Ziemer’s Funeral Home East Chapel, Rev. Rick VanHoose officiating, entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. – kbz
