Thursday at her home one and a half mile south of the city, Mrs. George W. Bowers passed away after a short illness of peritonitis. A week ago she underwent a dangerous and painful operation performed successfully by Doctors Etter and Chambers. From this operation she had practically recovered, when on Wednesday of last week she was stricken with peritonitis and despite all medical aid and the best counsel in the city with the assistance of an able trained nurse, she died within a day. The funeral occurred from the home Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Oliphant, the interment being at Oak Hill Cemetery. Sarah Lane Bowers’ maiden name was Denman, and she was fifty two years old at the time of her death, having been born Sept. 25, 1849. She was married to George W. Bowers Dec. 6, 1866, and he with four children, all sons, survives the mother and wife. The sons are Charles, Homer, Pearl and Vernon. Mrs. Bowers was a woman of splendid Christian character, and her life has been given to her family with unselfish devotion. The loss will fall heavily upon them, and the sympathy of all is extended to them in their hour of desolation. Mrs. Bowers was a sister of Will Denman, of Greencastle. -s
