Kenneth W. Bennett, 54 years old, publisher of the Putnam County Graphic at Greencastle, died yesterday in the West 10th Street Veterans Administration Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Bennett who had worked on several newspapers including the Linton Daily Citizen in his home town of Linton, was Greencastle correspondent for the Indianapolis Star for many years. He was a graduate of Indiana University and Navy veteran of WWII. He had been editor of a Uniontown PA daily and of the Brazil (Ind) Daily Times. In his Putnam County Graphic, a weekly newspaper, Mr. Bennett published many pictures of local scenes and persons. He took most of the pictures, many of which gained wide circulation in metropolitan dailies over the country. For many years he was the official photographer of the Hoosier State Press Association of which he was a member. He also was a member of the American Legion, Elks and Moose lodges and the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in the Catholic Church in Linton. Burial will be in Linton. Friends may call at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Greencastle. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Violet Bennett; two sons, George of Wilmette, Ill and Walter Bennett, a student at Indiana State College at Terre Haute; a daughter, Mrs. Suzie Knarr of Columbia, Mo; his mother, Mrs. Helen Bennett of Linton; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Francis of Linton and a brother, Charles Bennett of LaGrange. – kbz

Kenneth W. Bennett, 54, owner and publisher of the Putnam County Graphic at Greencastle died at the Veteran Administration Hospital at Indianapolis at noon Tuesday following a lengthy illness. He had served as news editor of the Linton Daily Citizen leaving here in 1937. Bennett was born June 8, 1909 in Linton the son of Phillip W. and Novelia Arvin Bennett. He was a graduate of Indiana University and a Navy veteran of WWII. He had served as editor of the Uniontown PA daily and of the Brazil Daily Times. Bennett was well known among Indiana newspaper people as photographer at the Hoosier State Press Association annual conventions for many years. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church here. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Violet Bennett; the mother, Mrs. Novelia Bennet of Linton; a daughter, Mrs. Susan Knarr of Columbia, Mo; two sons, George Bennett of Chicago and Wally Bennett of Greencastle; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Francis of Linton, a brother, Charles Bennett of LaGrange, Ill. Funeral services will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (Saron) at 9 a.m. Friday with Father Joseph Steckler officiating and burial in Fairview Cemetery here. The body will be at the Whitaker Funeral Home at Greencastle until near the funeral hour. The Linton American Legion Post will fold the colors and have the firing squad. - kbz
