A DePauw University student was killed today when his car skidded on snow slick pavement and crashed into a tree near Brick Chapel in Putnam County. Coroner Dr. Dale Oliver said Jeffery Scott Benage, 21, New Canaan, Conn died of internal injuries in an ambulance transporting him to the Putnam County Hospital. State police said the accident was reported on US 231 shortly after 5:12 a.m. In Marion County, an early morning snow shower and falling temperatures created conditions that caused more than 100 traffic accidents for work-bound motorists. Police were unable to respond to all of the accident reports. “They are coming in faster than we can count,” an Indiana State Police spokesperson said during the rush hour. Between 6:30 and 8 a.m, the state police received about 50 accident reports. Marion County sheriff’s deputies said most reports were from the north and east sections. -- kbz
