Born April 7, 1864, in Sharpsville, Kentucky, died December 24, 1933, age 69 years 8months and 17 days. He was the third son of William D and Almyica Barnes. He married Ina Call October 23, 1889. Three Children born to them; Jessie Emun, William Ashley and Frank. Two brothers; George Barnes and Robert Barnes and a Sister Mrs. Bessie Coffman.The family lived on a part of the Barnes homestead farm until failing health necessitated his moving to Roachdale in the fall of 1914. He served as director of the Roachdale Bank for about twenty five years, where he gained the reputation of being a sound business man. His code of ethics always demanded honesty and fairness. Mrs. Barnes host of friends attests to his winning personality and fine manhood. At age 69, years, 8 months and 17 days, Sunday December 24, in the afternoon, he passed on to his reward at the call of our Lord and Savior. - thanks so much to Marilyn W for all the RT obituaries

Simon D. Barnes was born April 7, 1864 in Sharpsburg, KY the third son of William D. and Almyria Barnes. As a boy of four years of age he moved with his parents to the Barnes homestead farm two and one-half miles south of Roachdale.  He learned his three Rs in a little country school, quit at an early age to continue his education by going to work under the supervision of his father, who painstakingly trained him in the fine points of farming and good business ethics. Simon Barnes married Ina Call on Oct 23, 1889.  Three children were born to them: Jessie Emun; William Ashley and Frank.  Mr. Barnes confessed his faith in Christ and in 1896, during the pastorate of Henry Ashley joined the Christian Church in Roachdale which he served faithfully until the Lord called him.  The family lived on a part of the Barnes homestead farm until failing health necessitated his moving to Roachdale in the fall of 1914.  He served as director of the Roachdale Bank for about 20 years where he gained the reputation of being a sound business man.  His code of ethics always demanded honestly and fairness.  Besides the widow and three children left to mourn his loss, there are two brothers, George Barnes and Robert Barnes and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Coffman.  Mr. Barnes host of friends attests to his winning personality and fine manhood.  At the age of 69 years 8 months and 17 days, Sunday, Dec 24 in the afternoon he passed on to his reward at the call of our Lord and Saviour. –--kbz
