A distressing accident occurred near Roachdale last week which cost the life of William Barnard a respected and well to do farmer residing on the Putnam County line.  He was driving a spirited team to a heavily loaded wagon when they suddenly took fright and started to run. The only witnesses to the accident were a couple of young ladies and they were some distance off but to them it appeared that Mr. Barnard attempted to jump and in so doing slipped and fell beneath the wheels. At all events he became tangled up in the lines and was dragged quite a distance.  The wagon passed over his senseless body crushing him terribly and the unfortunate man lived but a few minutes.  He was married and leaves a wife and several children --- kbz

On Wednesday William Barnard one of the highly respected citizens of Jackson Township was hauling logs when his team ran away and he received injuries that caused his death in a short time.  - kbz
