Jesse Baker was born February 2 8, 1830, in Montgomery County, Ky; died February 22, 1909; aged 7s years, 11 months and 22 days. He was the son of Andrew and Martha Baker and the oldest of fourteen children, eight of whom survive him three brothers and five sisters. He was married in Clark County. Ky., to Margaret J. Clark November 12, 1852, James Edmondson officiating, and soon after their marriage they moved to Putnam County. His wife died April I5. 1899. He was the father of eight children- four sons and four daughters. Three sons and four daughters survive him one son, John W., having died at the age of seven years. The following are the names of his living children: Sarah E.. wife of James Montgomery, at whose home he died: Charles C; Andrew J.; Margaret E., wife of Clifford Shinn: Pauline F., wife of Anderson Pickett; Harvey S., and Nora A. Baker. There are living 23 grandchildren and eight great grand children. He had never united with any church hut always lived an honest and upright life. Uncle Jesse ns he was usually called, was widely known over Hendricks and Putnam Counties, having been township assessor for over twenty years. He was a kind husband, a loving father and a good neighbor. The funeral service was conducted by Eld. E. W. Thomas at 11 o’clock Wednesday 24. at Palestine, to await the resurrection morn.
