ALLEN, Joseph P. - Putnam

J.P. Allen Sr., retired since 1928, was born in Milton, Wayne Co., Indiana, January 16, 1852. He was reared in Thorntown and attended Earlham College. In 1875 he became the owner of the interest of Wiles Jones, in the Jones and Vermillion firm in Greencastle and later purchased it entirely. His brother Hiram C. Allen joined him after a few years and purchased half interest. Mr. Allen was the father of J.P. Allen Jr., who resides on east Seminary Street in Greencastle. The brother Hiram also survives. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, with internment in Forest Hill cemetery.
