Greencastle, Ind Jan 26 – The body of Mrs. Eliza Jane Allen, age 94, “DePauw’s grandmother,” was buried Tuesday following funeral services conducted in the College Avenue ME Church by Dr HA Gobin, vice president and Dr. Salem B. Town, financial secretary of the university.    Mrs. Eliza Allen died at her home at Seminary Street and College avenue on Sunday afternoon from paralysis.  Mrs. Allen, widow of the late JRM Allen, saw the corner stone laid for the old West college building which was the first building on the old Indiana Asbury university campus.  She witness the breaking of ground for all the DePauw University buildings and was present at the commencement exercises of the first class to be graduated from Indiana Asbury University.  Mrs. Allen lived in Greencastle when corn was grown on the ground where the DePauw buildings now stand.  She was acquainted with every president of Indiana Asbury and now DePauw University and has been closely connecte4d with the life of thee local Methodist Institution.   ~~~transcribed by kbz
