Henry L. Albin, one of the well
known old citizens and former business men of Albany, died at the Masonic Home
in St. Louis Monday Jan 3d. The body was
brought to Albany and taken to the home of Mr. Albin’s son, John T and on
Wednesday afternoon funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, conducted
by Rev. CN White and the burial was in the old City Cemetery beside the graves
of member of his family. His age was 84 years 1 month 13 days. Mr. Albin was
born in Putnam County, Indiana Nov 20, 1831. When young he came to Gentry
County and had made this his home continuously until a few years ago when old
age came upon him and he went to live with his relatives. Several years were
spent with his daughter, Mrs. THB Williams at Little Rock, Kansas but a year or
so ago he went to the Masonic home to spend the remainder of his life. He was
married to Melvina Catherine Rowe, April 1, 1857 and they came to town shortly
afterwards and Mr. Albin engaged in the drug business in which he continued
many years. For some time during his later years he conducted a restaurant here
just the greater part of his life was spent in the drug business. Eight children were born to them, 4 of whom
are dead. The living are John T of Albany; Chas. F of Hope, Ark; Mrs. Ophelia
Williams and Ed of Little Rock, Ark. He leaves 15 grandchildren and 6 great
grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, BF, Jos T and Mrs. Maggie Embree
who live in California and one sister, Mrs. Jane Morris of Darlington. He had
been a member of the Masonic Fraternity for 50 years, having joined Athens
Lodge here in 1865. He also joined the Baptist Church many years ago. - kbz
