ROCKVILLE – Richard J. Adams, 74, a retired teacher, died Sunday night in Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis. Mr. Adams had been a teacher 38 years, working mostly in elementary schools. He was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War I. He was born in Parke County on May 23, 1899, a son of Silas V. and Nancy Hawkins Adams. He was married to Esther Beauchamp on Feb. 10, 1923. She survives. Also surviving are a son, William E. of North Augusta, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Mary) Newlin of Lafayette and Mrs. Walter C. (Mary Ruth) Johnson of Quincy; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Pefley of Rosedale; three brothers, Ared M. Adams of Indianapolis, Noel L. of Carmel and Edgar E. of San Diego, and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and three granddaughters. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Tudor Funeral Home here with the Rev. John Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Clear Run Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. -– jlr
