Mrs. LE Acker died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Edgar Newlin, in Bloomingdale on Sunday night. The body was brought here and interred in the New Cemetery (Maple Cemetery, [Brown Twsp, Montgomery County]), after services at the Christian Church conducted by Rev. EE Moorman on Tuesday afternoon. Cyrena Vandever was born on the 11th day of June 1839 in Putnam County about 3 miles south of Portland Mills. In her early childhood the family moved in Parke County where she remained until her marriage to Leonard E. Acker which occurred November 10, 1859 since which time they have lived in and near Waveland. She with her husband, united with the Christian Church at Portland Mills in September 1864. She was the mother of 7 children: One son James O died in June 1886. The living children are: Morton, Mt. Vernon, Ill; Mrs. Mary A. Newlin, Bloomingdale, Mrs. Lizzie Norcross, Terre Haute; Mrs Lou Lough, Guion; Mrs. Maude Milligan, new Market and Mrs. Laila Rosebaum. Her husband, two sisters and 11 grandchildren survive her. Her life was an open book to all who knew her. She was a good neighbor, a faithful wife and a tender and loving parent. During her last days she suffered greatly but bore her pain with fortitude. In God's love and peace may she rest. Among those present at the funeral from a distance were: Will Norcross of Terre Haute; SS Harris and wife Rockville; Mrs. Susie Horton and daughter, Judson; Edgar Newlin, Stan Newlin and wife, Lewis Newlin and wife, and John Swaim and wife of Bloomingdale.
