SPENCER Reunion - 1897 - Putnam

“Portland Mills” – Spencer Reunion - Henry & Harvey Spencer, Fremont Ramsay, Wallace Ramsay and wife; Mrs. Lillie Ratcliff; John S. Tippin and several others who were born and raised here but who have for many years resided in Kansas are visiting in this vicinity.  Enough came from the neighborhood of Greely, Kans.  The Spencers of this section and others gathered at the home of Trustee Charles Spencer last Friday and held a grand reunion, over a hundred being at the table for dinner. Next week a like reunion of the Harbisons, Porters and Spencers will be held at the residence of James McCutchan’s.  These three families are the pioneers of this section and have become very numerous.  If you meet a man in the vicinity of this place take off your hat and salute Mr. Spencer, Porter or Harbison and you scarcely ever miss it.  They are all generally all mighty good citizens and staunch republicans at that!   ~~~transcribed by kbz
