ROWDY BOY

Rowdy Boy, the famous pacer that recently died was raised by John McCoyu on his farm near Cloverdale. His sire was a brown horse called Bull Pup; his sire a roan horse owned by Wash Sherrill called Ben Snatcher. His dam was a Copperbottom mare. Rowdy was sold by McCoy to Thomas Hamrick for $175 and purchased from the latter by a company of Greencastle gentlemen for $1,000. Slight injuries received in railway accident caused them to dispose of him at the low figure of $1,000 and he afterwards changed hands for $6,000. His record was 2:13 3/4. He was campaigned for four consecutive years. During that time he started in 80 races, winning 21 was second in 28, third in 14, fourth in 12 and unplaced in 5. He paced 341 contested heats, winning 98. 88 of the latter were finished in 2:30 or better and 30 below 2:20.
