Frank D. Ader, a prominent lawyer and Democrat of Greencastle was at the Hotel English last night and stated that Representative James of Putnam County will not be a candidate for renomination. Mr. James was one of the leaders of the Democratic side of the House of Representatives last winter. “He will not be a candidate,” said Mr. Ader “because his professional duties are such that he can afford eschew politics.” According to Mr. Ader the Democrats will have plenty of candidates to fill Mr. James’ place. One of the men after the nomination is Jackson Boyd, who made the race for the congressional nomination against Mr. Horner of Brazil. DB Shonkwiler and CB McNay are also after Mr. James’ place. Mr. Ader says the courthouse question has not yet been settled in Putnam County. During the last Legislature Mr. James got a bill through giving the people of Putnam County the right to take a vote on the building of a new courthouse. The vote, however, has never been taken and the old courthouse is still in use. “The courthouse question,” said Mr. Ader last night, “has been an important factor I Putnam County politics. The Democrats have not alluded to the question in their platforms but the Republicans have and have favored the building of a courthouse. The James act took the question out of politics and took the question out of politics and left it to the voters. Mr. Ader says that Greencastle is just now business engrossed in a movement for a big factory that will employ about 500 men. The bringing of the factory to Greencastle will involve the sum of $60,000 and the people are hustling to raise the amount. Mr. Ader says there is no Democratic candidate for Congress in the Fifth district at this time. --- transcribed by kbz
