SMILEY, Bert - fined $200 - liquor

Bert Smiley, of West Columbia street, Greencastle, was arrested by county and city police officers at raid on his home, where the officers testified they found 144 pints of beer, two batches of it unfinished, some whiskey and alcohol. Smiley was taken into City Court before Mayor Denman Monday and found guilty; he was fined $200 and costs. He took an appeal to Circuit Court. Smiley, it is said, had become so bold In his beer business that the officers were compelled to act.
