Tuesday last it was
discovered that Patrick Riley of South Greencastle who is quite old and has
been suffering from a prolonged attack of illness had taken about two ounces of
laudanum with suicidal intent. As soon as possible Dr. Evans and other
physicians were called. They worked with the sick man for several hours and
finally succeeded in bringing him out of his stupor. It is hoped that Riley
will recover from the combined effects of the poison and sickness but it is
feared he will not.
