WILLIAMS, Mattie-WL Smith-7Oct1897 - Putnam

At 11 o’clock today at the home of the bride on West Poplar Street were spoken the words that united in marriage Miss Mattie Williams and Mr. WL Smith.  Only a few of the most intimate friends witnessed the ceremony which was pronounced by Elder E. Lane.  Nothing elaborate in the way of decorations or ceremony was attempted but it was a very pretty, quite occasion.  A large number of handsome and useful presents were received.  Mr. and Mrs. Smith left on the noon train for Roachdale where a dwelling, already furnished awaited them.  Mr. Smith was connected with the Greencastle Manufacturing company during its existence and now holds a similar place with the Tucker Bicycle Wood Work company of Roachdale.  Miss William has for a number of years held a responsible position with Allen Brothers.  Both have a large number of friends in this city and elsewhere who wish them nothing but the joys of life.    ~~~transcribed by kbz
