Justice of the Peace John F. Manning performed his first leap year marriage ceremony yesterday afternoon.  The bride swore she had done the proposing and as a reward for her “nerve” as the justice terms the ceremony was performed free of charge.  Miss Fannie P. Merida, 19 years old, the bride told of her brief acquaintance with the bridegroom, Charles H. Ogborn, a farmer, 35 years old, living in Hendricks County.  A friend of Mr. Ogborn, had been staying at her home and at the friend’s request she wrote to the young farmer, asking him to visit her.  The Hendricks county man came on the next train, and before he had been with Miss Merida 10 minutes had received the proposition and had accepted.  Ogborn accepted.  Ogborn insisted the ceremony be immediate but it was postponed when Miss Merida explained….  ---transcribed by kbz
