A mantle of snow without and a mantle of love within the walls of College Avenue Church signalized a very pretty wedding that came off at 5 o’clock this afternoon. The high contracting parties as already announced in our columns were Mr. William Happ of Paxton, Ill and Miss Jessie Glenn Cowgill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Cowgill of this city. The church was comfortably filled by the invited guests and the ushers, Messrs. Harry Paris, Harry Hays, Edward Paterson and E. Marquis, Jr. acted well their parts.  All the arrangements for the interesting event were perfect in detail and execution.  Dean Howe, of the school of music, testified his appreciation of and interest in events matrimonial by the contribution of a half-hour’s recital on the organ, which was in keeping with the artist’s reputation and in harmony with the feelings of his hearers. Another musical feature was Miss Rosa Marquis’ violin contribution.  During the ceremony she played, “Call Me Thine Own,” with organ accompaniment, the soft and subdued tones of both instruments blending harmoniously and lending an additional charm to the ceremony.  The opening march or bridal chorus from Lohengrin proclaimed the advent of the bridal part to the church, Miss Stella Jordan of this city was bridesman and Mr. George Happ of Champaign, Ill, a brother of the groom was his best man.  The bride was attired in a dress of silver grey novelty bengaline and that of Miss Jordan was a bengaline of ashes of roses. The church being darkened, the gas lights lent an additional halo of beauty to the scene. Dr. John as president of the university of which the fair bride is an honored alumna, performed the marriage ceremony according to the somewhat lengthy ring service of the Episcopal church.  At its close … the bridal party .. withdrew from the church, the deep tones of the organ rang out Mendelssohn’s grand wedding march … refreshments at the home of the bride, the happy couple took their departure from the city for Indianapolis and tomorrow will start on their wedding tour through the south.  Mr. and Mrs. Happ will make their home at Paxton, Ill where the groom is a member of the leading clothing firm.  The Banner Times extends congratulations and good wishes as do the host of friends of the bride in this city whose regard for her was testified by numerous and beautiful presents. Among the guests in attendance from neighboring cities were Mrs. Susie Kelley Fay of Urbana, Ill; Mrs. PK Buskirk of Bloomington and Miss Jesse Moore now of Terre Haute.
